Chicago Cubs Free Agent Odds

Cubs fans around the country have been pleading for the Off-Season to bring more excitement than it has since the signing of Jon Lester in the 2014 Winter Meetings, and the cries for help continue to echo louder throughout the franchise. After imploding the roster in 2021 to later try to reshape and build for the future, the Cubs' once competitive roster has returned to the 2009-2012 bleak team. Meanwhile, after being sneakily aggressive last season with signing multiple relievers, ace Marcus Stroman and Japanese star Seiya Suzuki, the Cubs look to bolster their lineup; and there are a few needs that may be filled with high price tags this off-season.  While Chicago’s team has only $96 million tied to the 2024 season, there are multiple needs to bring them back into contention for the National League Central division. With the surprise of Willson Contreras not being traded at the deadline for prospects, it leaves the holes of a true closer, a mid to high-tier starter, a catcher to ...

Week 11 - Michigan

Week 11 - Michigan Entering the season, we figured two games were going to be a true challenge; Michigan and Oklahoma. Yet, here we are post-Michigan facing another 3-9 season reminiscing on what this season could have been had we not kicked the onside kick and not lost to Northwestern. Regardless, it’s all in the past and it’s clear just how far we are from the future we all desire.  First and foremost I feel bad for Mickey Joseph. Mickey came in expecting to be a part of a competitive Nebraska team with Scott Frost, and following his Titanic ship finally sinking, now it was up to Mickey to survive the last 9 games of the season and it was just an unfair ask of him. While Mickey brought life to this team, life to this fanbase, and hope for a brighter future, the good majority of Nebraska faithful have sunk the head coach Mickey Joseph talks in hopes for another splash hire to win more than 3 games next year. Mickey has all the right words to say, all the right approaches to...

Week 10: Minnesota

Week 10 - Minnesota Following an astounding first half, the Huskers dropped their fourth straight game to the Minnesota Golden Gophers this Saturday afternoon. As the Huskers continue to struggle to finish off the season, more questions continue to arise. How does Mickey’s interim tag removal look after this game? Who is QB2? What needs to change for this team to finally compete for 4 quarters and win close games? These are tough questions that need time to be answered but this loss was arguably the toughest pill Mickey Joseph and his supporters have had to swallow thus far. After an electric start which carried that momentum into the second quarter, the Huskers entered half-time stunning the home crowd to a 10-0 lead. However, this was the peak of the mountain for Nebraska and their momentum as they returned flat.  After giving up the lead and allowing 20 unanswered points in the third and early fourth, the Huskers finally stuck with quarterback Logan Smothers to change the ...

Week 9 - Illinois

Image
Week 9 - Illinois This Halloweekend, I went to the game dressed as Cornman only to be exposed as a Clown expecting a win against Illinois. Going into this game, there was a stat that was posted stating the Huskers hadn’t beaten a top-25-ranked team in 6 years. Yes, that was pre-Scott Frost… and following this game, that drought continues.  There were 3 main takeaways that the Cornman had and none of them were all that positive after this loss.  The first of which is Casey Thompson is/was our guy. Though Casey Thompson shows flashes of Hiseman-caliber moments (like his Northwestern scramble and pass to Isaiah Garcia-Castanada), he has shown his moments of being spooked by defenses. However, through it all, I have never been more confident that he is our best quarterback… until I saw Chubba Purdy play after Casey went down. While the Huskers were winning at the time 9-6 and were looking very good, there was one single play that changed the complexion of the game. I don’t...

Week 7 - Purdue

Week 7 Last week I predicted there may have been some hope in returning the blackshirts to deserving players, and it was clear I was very premature in that statement.  This week was full of underdog hopeful fans trying to believe and will their way to getting the Huskers to play well. While the game was full of ups and downs, it was obvious just as to why the Huskers were underdogs to being with.  Entering Saturday night's game in West Lafayette, it was the first true road test the Huskers led by Mickey Joseph were going to face. After winning a nail bitter in New Jersey last week, it was going to be a much tougher game facing the Purdue offense led by pro-ready quarterback Aidan O’Connell.  All week Husker writers talked about the need for the blackshirts to stand up and lock down the pass-heavy Purdue offense. However, it was clear the Husker defensive game plan didn’t focus on the run stuff, rather they focussed on protecting against the deep ball and passing ga...

The Curse of Scott Frost (Satire)

Image
Prior to the Scott Frost hiring, every Nebraska fan was hopeful that the savior of Nebraska football had returned home. After his undisputed University of Central Florida National Championship run, Nebraska needed a new hope. After spurning Nebraska in the early 90s to then transferring from the Trees to the Cornstalks, it was clear Scott Frost was ready to build a brand in his home state of Nebraska.  Scott Frost arrived to arguably the most talented group Nebraska had seen since the end of the Golden Ages highlighted by 3 star punter, Caleb Lightbourn. It was clear Scott Frost took this opportunity knowing how easy this turnaround was going to be with this team and likely putting a garnish on his Nebraska football career.  While he played for the mediocre head coach of Tom Osborne - who randomly has his name written everywhere in Memorial Stadium - he oddly understood how to play amazing football. Scott Frost played for two years and returned with a 1997 National Cham...

Week 6 - Rutgers

Image
Week 6  After winning against Indiana last week, the question became, could they do it again? Could Mickey Joseph do what Scott Frost did one time and win against Big Ten opponents in back-to-back weeks? Well for Husker fans everywhere, the hope was very bleak after the first half.  Entering what may very well be Rutgers’ most important game of the season, Rutgers got the “sellout” for just the second time this season and had their Blackout theme. This sellout was simply embarrassing with the stadium being about a third empty with the bare bench bleachers being visible in nearly all the sections of the stadium. Nonetheless, this couldn’t take away the fact that Rutgers came ready to play on their blackout night.  Rutgers started off the game strong marching down the field and scoring with Nebraska Transfer Noah Vedral pulling a read option 21 yards for a touchdown. The Huskers then started poorly offensively ending their streak of opening drive touchdowns at 5 week...
